Summer is here and the water use has increased up to four times in comparison to other months. We tend to use more water in our homes in the summer season. The water demand increases as we need to help meet the water demand of lawns, vegetable gardens, flowers, trees along with water use inside the house such as drinking and washing purposes. Check for leaks in the toilet, kitchen and other areas of the house. If you notice an extra amount of water coming from underneath the sink, toilet, or walls, get it repaired immediately. Check for the toilet flush and water pipes in different corners of the house. Do not dump any non- human waste in the toilet, as it goes straight t the sewers and can cause blockages. Due to this, the toilet will lose its ability to flush properly and waste water unnecessarily. If possible, install water saving showerheads as it will cut the shower time short when the water becomes too hot. Take shorter showers and turn it off while rinsing. Turn off the tap while brushing or shaving and only turn on when its time to rinse. If you rare suing dishwasher and washing machines at home for cleaning purposes, use it only when it’s full.

Plant native or drought-tolerant plants that require less water. Water the plants in the early morning or only when it is needed. Place a layer of mulch around the trees and plants. Check for leaks outdoors as well such as hoses and water sprinklers.
