Follow These Simple Instructions While Constructing Your Water Storage Tanks
Water has many different uses including drinking, cooking, bathing, cleaning etc. A proper storage of water is mandatory to ensure it is clean and safe to use. Water storage requirement is met through water storage tanks worldwide. A good quality water storage tank is a must for any residential or commercial establishment for a smooth supply of pure and hygienic water to meet our daily requirements. The different requirements of water apart from the above include the following:
- To store water for the requirement of firefighting.
- To maintain regular supply at the time of repairs to the main water line.
- To reduce maximum rate of demand on the main water line.
- To maintain regular supply at the time when supply is distributed.
In order to meet these requirements, the two main types of water tanks are constructed- overhead and underground water storage tanks. There are many different types of storage tanks including plastic tanks. Plastic water storage tanks are extensively used nowadays as these tanks are leak proof, rust proof, light in weight and economical, durable, easy to maintain and install.
Underground Water Storage Tank: This type of tank is placed inside the ground. It should be constructed 30 cm above highest flood level or ground level whichever is higher. The water should not be allowed to stand around the tank. The outside water should not enter and its construction should provide easy cleaning. It should be airtight with smooth inner surface and no holes. All fittings including distribution pipes, supply pipes, overflow pipes, and air vent pipes should be fixed during construction of the wall for the tank.
Overhead Water Storage Tank: This type of tank is placed above ground mostly in the terrace area. It should be constructed 30 to 45 cm from the terrace to provide easy cleaning. No hole should be drilled after completion of the construction to avoid leakage, the slab and sides of the tank should be plastered well, proper overflow pipe and ball valve should be fixed in the tank to avoid any overflow. All fittings including distribution pipes, supply pipes, overflow pipes, and air vent pipes should be fixed during construction of the wall for the tank.
Follow these simple steps while constructing your water tanks and free yourself from all the tank related worries.
